Graduate Certificate in Investment Management
The Graduate Certificate in Investment Management is designed to offer business graduate students the opportunity to enhance their education with focused study in investment management. Students completing the Investment Management certificate will have coursework in investment-related subjects and three special courses comprising intensive research and real-time practical training in investment portfolio management that utilizes the David O. Nicholas Applied Finance Lab in Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business. Students who complete this certificate in addition to their graduate degree requirements will gain substantial competitive edge in pursuing a career initially as financial analyst, investment advisor, and later as investment portfolio manager, chief investment officer, and ultimately as independent financier.
To obtain the certificate, a student must complete 18 credits of required coursework while fulfilling all degree requirements for the MBA or M.S. in Management degree. Due to the intensity of the coursework in the Investment Management Certificate, the program will be of most interest to students pursuing the M.S. in Management degree with a concentration in Finance Analysis.
In order to apply to the Graduate Certificate in Investment Management program, the following courses must have been completed: Bus Adm 721, Financial Accounting Theory & Bus Adm 771, Investments. Admission is on a competitive basis and the following criteria are reviewed: cumulative GPA, grades earned in Bus Adm 721 and 771, and a personal statement. Students will obtain an application form from the Graduate Program Services office (LUB N251). Return the completed application to the same office during the semester all admission requirements will be met.

- * A maximum of 9 credits from the Certificate in Investment Management may also count toward a UWM graduate business degree. The course sequence is outlined in a separate document available in Graduate Program Services.
Students completing the certificate are also required to have an internship experience prior to graduation from the certificate program. The internship experience must be approved by the IMCP director.
Students must complete all coursework required for the certificate with at least a 3.0 GPA to have the certificate posted on the transcript at graduation. Students must complete all certificate courses within 3 years of initial enrollment in the certificate program.
