Graduate School Research Committee Awards

Overview
The Graduate School Research Committee, a standing committee of the Graduate Faculty Council, annually makes awards of up to $10,000 to individual faculty.
The Research Committee competition gives strong preference to Assistant Professors and newly appointed (two years or less) Associate Professors. The awards are intended to support the development of applicants' research programs (e.g., the initial phase of a new project or a transition project of an applicant expanding his or her area of research). Awards provide up to $10,000, and applicants may request up to one-ninth summer salary support.
Eligible are tenured and tenure-track faculty members who:
- Will have completed their terminal degree by the November 1 preceding the award year.
- Have not received a research committee award during the three years preceding the award year.
- Are not members of the research committee during the current academic year.
- Have satisfied the terms and conditions of previous research committee awards.
- Are not on notice of non-retention for the academic year following the award year.
- Will be on the faculty in the academic year following the award year. (If a grantee fails to complete this required term of continued service, full reimbursement to the Graduate School of all expended funds is required).
- Do not have primary budget authority (chancellor, vice chancellor, deans, associate deans).
- Have not received $100,000 or more in start-up funds.
Projects supported with Research Committee funds are expected to result in appropriate scholarly products, e.g. publications, creative works, proposals for extramural funding, or artistic performances.
