Subawards

A subaward is a mechanism to provide funding to another institution (subrecipient) that is collaborating with UWM in the performance of a funded project. The subaward is formalized with a subaward agreement.

To initiate the process, your pre-award proposal reviewer will identify subrecipients of an award as specified in the proposal budget/budget narrative. You will receive an e-mail message requesting confirmation that subaward agreements are to be issued to these collaborators/subrecipients as described in the proposal (or revised proposal). OSP will then coordinate the creation and execution of subawards as required. You will receive a copy of the subaward agreement to approve prior to its being sent to the subrecipient.

Shortly after the subaward agreement has been fully executed, you will receive a Subcontract/Subaward Encumbrance Request—which you and your unit business representative must approve—along with instructions for processing the request.
