Intellectual Property Guidance for Private-Sector Sponsored Research Agreements
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research recognize the importance of balancing the interests of research sponsors with the responsibilities of the university. For this reason, the Vice Chancellor for Research has established guidelines for the Office of Technology Transfer with respect to intellectual property provisions in private-sector sponsored research agreements.
The Office of Technology Transfer shall be responsible for negotiating private sector sponsored research agreements and, in particular, intellectual property provisions—working in cooperation with the UWM Research Foundation. In general, intellectual property resulting from these agreements shall be assigned to and managed by UWM's designated intellectual property management organization (IPMO), the UWM Research Foundation. This will help to ensure that these agreements are consistent with any existing University obligations under federal sponsorship agreements, other extramural sponsorship agreements or existing master agreements.
